The Wise Old Goose

Story 11 Friends Apart 2 min read Ages 3–10

A flock of geese lived in a great tree. An old goose noticed a small creeper growing up the trunk.

"Nibble it away now," he said. "One day a hunter will climb it." The young geese laughed at him.

The creeper grew thick and strong. Nobody thought about it again.

One night a hunter climbed the creeper and spread his net over the sleeping birds.

"Play dead," whispered the old goose. "When he throws you on the ground, fly!"

They did just that, and the whole flock rose safely into the sky.
