The Monkeys and the Firefly

Story 12 Friends Apart 1 min read Ages 3–10

One cold winter night a troop of monkeys shivered under a tree.

They saw a firefly glowing in the dark. "Fire!" they cried. "Now we shall be warm."

They gathered dry leaves around the little glow and blew on it with all their might.

A small bird watched from a branch. "That is not fire," she called. "It is only a firefly."

The monkeys would not listen. They blew and blew, and still they were cold.

The bird flew away. Some people, she thought, will not hear good advice.
