The Mouse Who Became a Girl

Story 51 Crows & Owls 2 min read Ages 3–10

A holy man found a tiny mouse and, by his power, turned her into a little girl.

He raised her kindly, and when she grew up he asked whom she would like to marry.

"Someone truly great," she said. So he called the Sun, the Cloud, the Wind and the Mountain.

Each one said, "There is someone stronger than me," and pointed to the next.

At last the Mountain said, "The mouse is stronger than I am. He digs right through me."

The girl smiled. "Then let me be a mouse again," she said, and she was happiest of all.
