The Moon in the Lake
A herd of elephants came to drink at a lake where many hares lived. Their feet crushed the burrows.
The hares were frightened. A small clever hare said, "Let me speak to the elephant king."
He climbed a high rock in the moonlight. "I am the messenger of the Moon," he said.
"The Moon is angry. You have troubled the lake that belongs to him. Come and see."
The elephant king looked into the still water and saw the round moon shivering there.
He bowed low and led his herd away, and the hares slept safely ever after.
