The Crows and the Owls
In a great banyan tree lived a family of crows. In a rocky cave nearby lived the owls.
The crows saw well by day. The owls saw well by night. Neither trusted the other.
Long ago there had been a quarrel, and nobody could quite remember why.
So they went on frightening each other, year after year, for no good reason at all.
A wise old crow shook his head. "A fight that no one remembers starting," he said, "is the silliest fight of all."
It would take one clever bird to end it.
Many quarrels carry on long after everyone has forgotten the reason.
