The Grateful Animals

Story 17 Friends Apart 2 min read Ages 3–10

A kind traveller passed an old dry well and heard cries for help.

Inside were a tiger, a monkey, a snake and a goldsmith, all fallen in together.

One by one he pulled them out. The three animals thanked him warmly and went away.

Later the tiger brought him a golden necklace as a gift, and the traveller took it to the goldsmith to sell.

But the goldsmith knew that necklace and told the guards a false story about his rescuer.

The animals came running and spoke the truth. The traveller was set free, and everyone saw who was really grateful.
