The Birds Who Would Not Help
A flock of swans lived on a lake with a family of geese who often warned them of danger.
"Why should we bother about them?" said the proud swans. "They are not our kind."
One night a hunter crept up quietly to the water's edge.
The geese saw him and called out, but the swans did not call back or move.
In the morning many were gone, and the lake was very quiet.
"We would all be safer," said an old goose sadly, "if we simply looked out for one another."
A group that does not help each other is easy to hurt.
