The Heron and the Crab

Story 7 Friends Apart 2 min read Ages 3–10

An old heron could no longer catch fish. So he sat by the pond and looked very sad.

"A fisherman is coming to empty this pond," he told the fish. "I can carry you to a big safe lake."

The frightened fish agreed. One by one the heron carried them away, and one by one he ate them.

At last a crab asked to go too. The heron lifted him up.

From the sky the crab saw a heap of fish bones. He understood everything.

The crab held on tight with his strong claws until the heron set him down safely by the water.
