The Wise Old Bird

Story 35 Winning Friends 1 min read Ages 3–10

A fowler spread his net and scattered grain beneath a tree full of birds.

An old bird called out, "Do not go down. Grain does not grow in neat little piles."

Some young birds listened and stayed on the branch.

Others laughed and flew down to eat, and the net closed over them.

The old bird sighed. Wisdom, he thought, is free, but only for those who take it.
