The Deer Who Was Trapped

Story 24 Winning Friends 1 min read Ages 3–10

One morning the deer did not come to the lake. His friends grew worried.

The crow flew high and searched. He found the deer caught in a hunter's rope.

He fetched the mouse, who came as fast as his little legs would go.

"Wait," said the crow. "The turtle is coming too, though he is slow."

The mouse chewed the rope through, and the deer sprang free.

Then they all helped the slow turtle home, because friends do not leave anyone behind.
