The Mouse Who Cut the Net

Story 23 Winning Friends 2 min read Ages 3–10

The doves flew with the net all the way to a hill where a mouse lived underground.

"Friend mouse!" called their king. "Come and help us. We are caught fast."

The mouse hurried out. "I will cut your rope first," he said to the king.

"No," said the king. "Free my flock first. If I am freed first and you grow tired, they will still be trapped."

The mouse's eyes filled with tears at such kindness. He gnawed through every rope.

One by one the doves rose free, and the king was the very last to fly.
