The Crab Who Saved a Life

Story 29 Winning Friends 1 min read Ages 3–10

A young man set out on a long journey through the forest.

His mother said, "Take a friend with you." He had none, so he carried a small crab in a pot of water.

The road was hot. He rested under a tree and fell asleep.

A snake came sliding close, but the crab was watching from the pot.

The crab snapped his claw and made a loud clatter that woke the traveller at once.

The snake slid away, and the young man never again laughed at a small companion.
