The Peacock and the Rain

Story 77 Losing What You Won 1 min read Ages 3–10

A peacock danced beautifully whenever the first monsoon clouds rolled in.

The farmers loved to watch him and said his dance called the rain.

The peacock believed it too, and grew very proud indeed.

One year he danced and danced, but the clouds passed by and no rain fell.

He hid himself away in shame until an old farmer found him.

"We never loved you for the rain," said the farmer. "We loved you for the dance."
