The Fox and the Drumstick Tree
A fox found a tree heavy with long green drumsticks, but they hung far too high.
He jumped and jumped, and each time his teeth closed on empty air.
A passing bird said, "They will fall on their own when they are ripe. Just wait a few days."
"I want them now," said the fox, and he jumped until his legs ached.
In the end he limped away, telling everyone the drumsticks were sour anyway.
Three days later they fell, sweet and soft, and the birds ate every one.
Some good things only come to those who can wait.
