The Jackal Who Killed No Elephants
A jackal found a huge elephant that had died of old age in the forest.
He could not bite through the thick skin, but he told everyone he had brought the giant down himself.
The animals were amazed. "Such a small jackal, such a big elephant!"
A lion happened to walk past and looked at the jackal, and then at the elephant.
"If you can kill an elephant," said the lion pleasantly, "come and hunt with me tomorrow."
The jackal was up all night worrying, and at dawn he quietly left the forest.
