The Loyal Mongoose
A farmer and his wife kept a gentle mongoose who grew up beside their baby son.
One morning the mother went to the well and left the mongoose watching the cradle.
While she was gone, a snake came into the room, and the brave mongoose drove it away.
He ran to the door to greet her, his mouth still red from the fight.
She saw the red and thought the worst, and cried out before she looked inside.
Then she ran to the cradle and found her baby sleeping safely, and she wept for her hasty words.
